Samuel L. Taggard
Executive Vice President of Strategy and Portfolio Development

 

Samuel L. Taggard is Executive Vice President of Strategy and Portfolio Development. Since joining in 2018, he has been responsible for organic and inorganic business strategy, strategic investments and partnerships, and new business development  focused on core-expanding and adjacency value-creation for AMS members. He also leads special projects and supports core AMS asset optimization.

Prior to AMS, Samuel spent nine years at Cigna Healthcare in a variety of roles, including Strategic Business Development, National Contracting, Value Based Product Development and Enablement. Most recently, he was the Enablement Lead for CareAllies, a Cigna business focused on supporting providers with their transition to value-based care. During Samuel’s time within Business Development, he was part of the core team driving the Pharmacy Benefit Management outsourcing initiative that resulted in a partnership with Catamaran. Within this role, he also spent time driving the creation and structure of Cigna Ventures, which enabled minority and fund investments. Prior to joining Cigna's HealthService Leadership Program, Samuel practiced as a physical therapist in a variety of clinical settings while at Beth Israel Deaconess and HCA's Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Samuel holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Finance from Bentley College, a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Duke University School of Medicine and a Masters of Business Administration from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.
